Previously, the charge percentage was displayed to the left of the battery icon in the top bar, but with the release of the iPhone X, it was moved to the “Control Center” (on an iPhone with Face ID, it is called up by swiping down from the top right corner of the screen). The new iOS 16 beta decided to make the indicator available all the time: the number was simply written into the battery image.

It is noted that so far the new indicator does not work on the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini. Perhaps the function simply did not have time to optimize for them, and it will appear in the next beta.

Whether you like the innovation or not is completely subjective, but the indicator also has an obvious drawback. In order for the number to be read normally, regardless of how much charge was left, the battery icon had to be filled with a solid color. As a result, there was no opportunity to take a quick look at the indicator and understand what was happening with the charge: even at 55%, the battery looks fully charged.

In addition, this solution does not work with light background images, as seen in the screenshot above.

Probably, in the settings it will be possible to return the old version without numbers, but this will only be confirmed after the release of stable iOS 16 in the fall.
