How to delete a group in Viber or leave it

What is important to know

Group chats are convenient for joint conversations when you need to quickly inform several people at once or discuss it together. A Viber group can have a maximum of 250 users. In such a chat, all messages sent by any of the participants are visible.

If you no longer want to be in a group, you can simply leave it and remove it from your chat list. But leaving does not mean deleting it or deleting any of the members, even if you are an administrator.

To terminate a chat, the administrator must first manually clear it from the rest of the people, and then exit and delete the group. If all users leave it, the latter receives a message that he is the only participant in the conversation.

How can a member leave a group on Viber

On a smartphone

The sequence of actions is almost identical for Android and iOS.

1. Open Viber on your smartphone.
2. Click on the «Chats» button in the menu below.
3. Select the group you want to leave.
4. On Android, tap the three-dot button in the top right corner and select Community Info. On iOS, click on the group name at the top of the screen. You can also tap the name of a chat on Android or swipe right to left on iOS.
5. In the menu that appears, scroll down the page to the last item “Exit and delete”.
6. Click the appropriate button and confirm your action.

On the computer

In the PC version, the algorithm is also suitable for different operating systems.

1. Open Viber on your computer.
2. Select the group you want to leave from the list on the left.
3. Click on the information icon with the letter i in a circle.
4. Scroll to the end of the screen that appears and click «Exit and delete.»
5. Confirm your action.

How can an administrator delete a group in Viber

On a smartphone

The process of completely removing is similar to leaving a group, but first you need to remove all members.

1. Launch Viber on your smartphone.
2. Click on the «Chats» button.
3. Select the group you want to delete from the list.
4. Click the info button on Android or the group name on iOS. Alternatively, tap on the chat title on Android or swipe right to left on iOS.
5. Next, scroll down to the item with the participants and select each from the list. In the drop-down menu, click «Remove from chat».
6. After the done manipulations with users, click the «Exit and delete» button at the very bottom of the screen.
7. Confirm that you want to delete the group in Viber, and not mute it.

On the computer

On a computer, the algorithm is very similar to the sequence of actions on a smartphone:

1. Launch Viber.
2. Select the group you want to delete from the list.
3. Click on the info icon with a circled i if you don’t already have that menu open.
4. Scroll down the screen to «Participants» and go to this section.
5. In the list that opens, right-click on the users and delete each from the chat.
6. Then return to the main menu, scroll to the bottom and select «Exit and delete».
7. Confirm the action.
