Huawei showed the Mate 50 line, which included three models at once: Mate 50, Mate 50 Pro and Mate 50 RS. They all run on the new HarmonyOS 3. They are similar in design to last year’s Mate 40s with a massive round camera module on the back (albeit now without a hole in the center), but there are improvements inside. We tell you what you need to know about these devices.
Huawei Mate 50
The smartphone received a 6.7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2700 × 1224 pixels, a refresh rate of 90 Hz and HDR support. In the center is a round hole for a 13 MP selfie camera. The fingerprint scanner is built into the screen.
Responsible for performance is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor coupled with 8GB of RAM. Interestingly, the chipset is without a 5G module: it only supports LTE. The storage capacity is from 128 to 512 GB, depending on the modification, you can add memory using NM Cards up to 256 GB.
The triple camera on the rear panel consists of a 50MP Sony IMX766 main module, a 13MP wide-angle Sony IMX688 and a 12MP periscope with 5x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom.
The 4460mAh battery supports fast wired charging up to 66W, wireless up to 50W and reverse up to 7.5W. The case is protected from moisture and dust according to the IP68 standard. There is NFC for contactless payment and the ability to send emergency messages via Beidou where conventional communication does not catch.
The smartphone will go on sale in China on September 21 in five variants. With a glass cover, silver, purple and black colors will be available, and the manufacturer will also offer two leather versions: orange and black. Prices are already known:
- 8 / 128 GB — 4,999 yuan (≈43,800 rubles);
- 8 / 256 GB — 5,499 yuan (≈48,200 rubles);
- 8 / 512 GB — 6,499 yuan (≈56,900 rubles).
In leather version, it will be possible to buy only 256 and 512 GB models, for this option you will have to pay 200 yuan (about 1,750 rubles).
Huawei Mate 50 Pro
The more expensive model has already received a 6.74-inch OLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, but the resolution is slightly lower (2616 × 1212 pixels), and the neat hole for the selfie camera has been replaced with a notch — which even Apple is already trying to abandon. It hides the same 13MP camera, as well as a 3D ToF sensor for face unlock and gesture control.
The main and wide-angle cameras are the same as in the regular Mate 50, but the periscope is already more powerful: this is a 64 megapixel OmniVision OV64B with optical stabilization, 3.5x optical zoom and 200x digital.
The battery here is slightly larger, at 4,700 mAh, but the charging speed is the same. The rest of the specifications are identical.
The colors will be the same. The 128 GB version is gone, so any version of the Mate 50 Pro can be bought in leather (also with a surcharge of 200 yuan). The prices are:
- 8 / 256 GB — 6,799 yuan (≈59,600 rubles);
- 8 / 512 GB — 7,799 yuan (≈68,300 rubles).
This model will also go on sale in China on September 21st.
Huawei Mate 50 RS Porsche Design
The top version in the line, which is the Mate 50 Pro with an aggressive racing design and a different periscope. He, too, with OIS, but with a resolution of 48 megapixels and the ability to work in microscope mode: the manufacturer promises outstanding macro shots.
In China, this model will appear on September 21. It will only be available in a dark blue or light lilac glass case in a single 12/512 GB version. The price tag is an impressive 12,999 yuan. This is approximately 113,900 rubles at the current exchange rate.
