During yesterday’s presentation, Apple revealed the release date for a major iOS 16 update. The update will become available on September 12 for all devices, except for models older than iPhone 8. On the same day, branded watches will begin to receive watchOS 9.

iOS 16 brings a host of new features, including a completely redesigned lock screen, new widgets, updated maps, and an email client. One of the most useful features is the ability to delete iMessages after they’ve been sent. And in the new version of iOS, the battery percentage indicator has finally returned.

Also in the upcoming version of iOS, a completely new authorization method has been added — Passkey. The function is a digital key that replaces the password. To create it, you must confirm the entrance through a password that protects the device, Touch ID or Face ID. A unique key is available only for the site for which it was created.

List of devices that will receive iOS 16:

  • iPhone 8, 8 Plus;
  • iPhone X;
  • iPhone Xr;
  • iPhone Xs, Xs Max;
  • iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max;
  • iPhone SE 2020;
  • iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, Pro Max;
  • iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro, Pro Max;
  • iPhone SE 2022.

The new iPhone 14 models initially run on iOS 16. And as for iPadOS 16, this system will be released only a month later — in October. There is no exact release date yet.
