On September 26, users began to report that the application of the most popular social network in Russia, VKontakte, had disappeared from the App Store. When searching by name, messages about the removal of the program by the developer or unavailability in the country are displayed.
Later, other programs associated with VK began to disappear. Among them: VK Music, VK Clips, VK Messenger, as well as the mail client Mail.ru and Cloud Mail.ru.
VK commented on the situation:
VK confirms that Apple has blocked several of the company’s apps, which are currently unavailable in the App Store. The company has sent a request for clarification to Apple. VK services installed on users’ smartphones continue to operate as usual.
Also a request to Apple Inc. about the reasons for the deletion of VK applications and developer accounts was sent by the Ministry of Digital Development, paying special attention to the social significance and scale of use of the services of the Russian company.
